Bathroom and Kitchen Remodel

This week marked the beginning of our "10 year plan" for our house. When we first built this house there were some things that we didn't do initially that we would have liked (we could only afford so much!) and then as we've lived here for 10 years now we have discovered some things that we don't like about our house. We are committed to living here forever so we thought it was time to make it what we want.  On Tuesday, the remodeling began!

We started with this wish list:

• Add tile instead of NASTY carpet in our master bath - we thought we would change that right away but never did!
• Add crown moulding to and pop up/out some of the kitchen cabinets.
• Add a tile backsplash in the kitchen.
• Change to granite kitchen countertops?
• Either power clean or replace the existing tile in the majority of the house. (I wish I would have never picked this tile! I've hated it for about the last 9 years.)

This list grew to all of the above PLUS:

• Tear out master shower and replace with a travertine shower and bathtub surround.
• Take down wall of mirrors in master bath and replace with nice framed mirrors.
• Add tile backsplash in master bath.
• Change all faucets in house to bronze (except kitchen).
• Tear out existing kitchen island, move it out and over to make more room in kitchen and build a bigger/better one. This means a new sink and faucet too.
• Change all counters in the house to granite, including kitchen and 3 bathrooms.

Let's not even talk about what's still on our mind for the future. We can get a bit carried away.

Shower Floor - my favorite part so far.

On Monday they will be here to grout the shower and tear out about one thousand feet of existing tile.  I know it will be messy! Many people have warned me against it, but I'm doing it anyways.  Tuesday they will install the Island Base and then we will be a few days waiting for the top and the sink. New tile will be installed the next week, and hopefully most of the major stuff will be done by June 3rd. 

So next Tuesday through the next Tuesday I will be without a sink which means no cooking! Who wants to feed me and the kids? :)
